Christopher McQuarrie has dropped major updates about his ongoing collaborations with Tom Cruise. Chief among them is the confirmation that Top Gun 3 has a clear storyline, which came together much more easily than expected.
The director emphasized that creating emotional impact is the real creative challenge. As for directing duties, McQuarrie hasn’t committed, but he’s immersed in studying how to channel the late Tony Scott’s cinematic vision.
In addition to Top Gun, McQuarrie revealed that he and Cruise are also developing a spinoff for Les Grossman. Their brainstorming sessions, he said, have been both hilarious and productive, hinting at exciting things to come.
