In a move to honor local traditions and historical events, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared several special non-working days in various localities across the Philippines for the month of October. This decision aims to enable residents to actively participate in their community festivals, anniversaries, and commemorative activities.
Among the localities celebrating these special days, Malita in Davao Occidental will have a non-working day on October 7 for its town fiesta. San Isidro in Surigao del Norte will pause on October 9 to mark its 67th founding anniversary. Talisay in Batangas will commemorate the Battle of Batangas on October 12.
Continuing the series of celebrations, Lapuyan in Zamboanga del Sur will observe its 69th founding anniversary on October 16. Batac in Ilocos Norte will honor the 160th birth anniversary of General Artemio Ricarte on October 20, while Sibutu in Tawi-Tawi will celebrate its founding anniversary on October 21.
October 23 will be a day of festivities for Angeles City in Pampanga due to the Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan Festival and for Narvacan in Ilocos Sur, which will celebrate the Aldaw Ti Wayawaya-lli A Narvacan. Dingle in Iloilo will commemorate the Cry of Lincud on October 28, and Mati City in Davao Oriental will host the Sambuokan Festival on October 29.
These special non-working days have been declared through a series of presidential proclamations. This initiative not only supports the preservation of cultural heritage but also encourages community participation in local events, fostering a sense of unity and pride among residents.
