Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized the need for enhanced business and investment cooperation between Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during his visit to Abu Dhabi on October 20. Following discussions with UAE business leaders, Wong underscored the potential for companies and investors from both nations to deepen their collaboration.
Wong’s meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan centered on shared priorities and the exchange of expertise. Wong pointed to the UAE’s robust capabilities in energy sectors, including oil, gas, renewable energy, and nuclear power, and highlighted its increasing investments in artificial intelligence and defense technology. These areas, Wong suggested, present significant opportunities for the two countries to leverage their respective strengths and forge new partnerships.
The economic relationship between Singapore and the UAE is already substantial. In 2025, their bilateral trade in goods reached $27.9 billion, with trade in services amounting to $12.8 billion in 2024. These figures establish the UAE as Singapore’s largest trading partner in the Middle East.
Both nations continue to reinforce their economic ties through bilateral business forums and investment initiatives. The recent discussions between leaders reflect a mutual interest in expanding commercial links and identifying new opportunities, especially in light of the evolving global economic landscape.
