Vietnam and Singapore are working to enhance their political trust and broaden strategic coordination as they bolster cooperation in areas like technology, innovation, and sustainable development. With Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm set to make a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that the relationship between the two countries has progressed beyond traditional economic links. The focus is increasingly on forward-looking sectors that foster long-term growth and facilitate regional integration within the ASEAN framework.

In 2025, the bilateral relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership, symbolizing the growing political trust and shared strategic interests of both nations. Singapore is a key economic partner for Vietnam, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor. The partnership encompasses thousands of active projects across various sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology.

A notable emblem of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network. This initiative is expanding toward more sustainable and high-tech models, aligning with broader sustainable development objectives. Both nations are also enhancing their collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition efforts. There are active endeavors to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and networks of skilled talent in both countries.

Economic collaboration is expected to be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with a focus on deepening ties in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” aim to foster stronger links among governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies, particularly in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology sectors. The visit is anticipated to support the upcoming generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Vietnam.

During his trip, Tô Lâm will also deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a leading security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as a testament to Vietnam’s increasing international stature and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
